Judge Not

Judge Not

  1. &Mt 7:1 "Judge not, that you be not judged.
  2. Now we have all probably had this verse thrown at us one time or another.  It is often a convenient tool to circumvent dealing with a touchy sin issue that has been brought up.  (I notice it seems your struggling with a certain habit°HEY  BACK OFF! Don't judge me!  Jesus said Judge not lest you be judged°You want to be Judged?
  3. So often this verse is used in the wrong context.  (I remember once watching American Idol°this girl was rather bitter that her talent was not recognized by the panel and later during the interview she was saying, "I don't know just who they think they are to judge me."
  4. There is a place to judge,
  5. Many of the people who quote this verse do not understand what Jesus said.
  6. Does this verse mean that Jesus is commanding a universal acceptance of any lifestyle° or any teaching no matter where it leads people?  I do not think so.
  7. God does care about truth.  God does care about sin.
  8. If I am violating a clear teaching of scripture, is it wrong for you, (being honestly concerned) to speak the truth in love?
  9. The more I read the bible, the more it seems to me that life boils down to truth or consequences.
  10. Are we called to discern?
  11. Later in the same chapter (V-15&16) Jesus is telling us how to know people by the fruit of their life°clearly some sort of assessment is required for that.
  12. There is only one Gospel and Paul said, "If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed"
  13. So°clearly we are called to judge
  14.  Jesus also commands "John 7:24 - Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. "
  15. He told a man (in Luke 7:43).  "You have rightly judged"
  16. We are called to love unconditionally, but we are not called to unconditional approval!
  17. We really can love people who do things that should not be approved of. In fact we must.
  18. That is what seems to be missed in our time.
  19. I don't have to stop loving if I disagree.
  20. In fact, often it is because of love I disagree.
  21. The word Judge here in the Greek  kree'-no  can rightly be declared condemn.
  22. We are not to judge for condemnation, (that is not our call is it? )
  23. Wwe are to judge for identification"
  24. The Bible teaches the need to judge, and the need not to condemn.
  25. We are to judge to identify sin.
  26. ~How can I be used to restore something that I refuse to admit is wrong?
  27. Before restoration there must be an identification of what needs to be restored.
  28. I guess it boils down to whether your emphasis on the problem or the solution.
  29. Jesus didn't tell the disciples, "Hey! Y'all got stinky feet!"  What did He do?  He washed them.
  30. If you are willing to expose someone's dirty feet, it should be because you are willing to wash them!
  31. Jesus is speaking against being judgmental, that is, judging motives and the inner man, things that only God can know. We can judge the fruit of a man, but we can't always judge their motives with accuracy. (Because we don't know everything.)
  32. Our job is not to condemn°we don't know what is going on behind the scenes.  But if we see bad fruit°maybe (if the love of Jesus is a reality in our lives) we can help.
  33. So° &1"Judge not, that you be not judged.  2 "For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
  34. We should be quick to extend the mercy that we honestly will need.
