Life is to serve

Life is to Serve.

They say that 80% of the work done in churches is done by 20% of the people. Why is that? Here are a few reasons why.

Some people feel unequipped or useless. They feel like they have nothing to contribute or any skill to use. This false belief needs to be corrected.  In 1 Peter 4:10-11 says 10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

11Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen NAS

Peter explains we all have been given a special gift to be used in serving. We need to educate these church members that they have a place to serve in God body of believers.

Some people are hurting or have been hurt by someone in church. There are no perfect churches.  Churches are full of sinners. If someone is hurting, we need to step beside them and help carry some of there burden. If they have been hurt by someone in the church we need to bring them to Gods word in Acts 15:36-41.          36 After some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us return and visit the brethren in every city in which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are."  37 Barnabas wanted to take John, called Mark, along with them also. 38  But Paul kept insisting that they should not take him along who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work. 39  And there occurred such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus. 40            But Paul chose Silas and left, being committed by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. 41 And he was traveling through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

Paul and Barnabas had a disagreement. Did they stop serving God because of it, no they continued serving and went their different way, but still serving. So a disagreement doesn't put us on the bench, we are still in the game and need to perform at our best.

Some people are lazy or just do not want to serve. As Charles Spurgeon said, "Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter." Jesus came to serve. He washed the disciple's feet. We are to stive to be more like Jesus. You can not do that without serving.

The one thing about laziness is it's contagious. As leaders we need to challenge and encourage them to serve.

These are just a few reasons people don't want to serve. God didn't make us to be pew setters, He didn't make us to just be consumers, He made use to be producers.

Some verses to meditate on today.

Matt 20:28         just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

Matt 23:11   "But the greatest among you shall be your servant.

Gal 6:9  Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

Matt 7:15-20      "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. "You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?  "So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. "A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  "So then, you will know them by their fruits.  "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.  "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'

So as I close I would like to see all Gods children serving, caring for each other, carrying each other's burdens, and showing the light of Jesus throughout the Sun Coast.
