A Living Purpose

A Living Purpose

James 29:11, Proverbs 19:6, Ephesians 5:15-16

Good Morning!  It is December 29th, 2020 and Jesus Christ is on The Throne; all things are under his feet; His name and power is positioned above everything that exists, and he is the same yesterday, today and forever.  His word never changes, and because of that, you will never be overtaken, destroyed or consumed!

James 29:11(NLT) "for I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

I love this verse as it is one that shows that God's intentions toward us are only for good.  This encourages me and should encourage you in any and every situation you find yourself in, whether it is of your doing or of circumstances out of your control.

There are so many things we can learn from this scripture, but one that I think gets a bit overlooked is that God has a plan.  He is purposeful in everything he does. God doesn't just react to situations, trying to do the best he can with whatever happens.  God is intentional.  He has specific plans, and he does not approach life randomly, and with Him as our example, neither should we.

The new year gives us an action point for hanging our goals and dreams on.  It offers us a wonderful opportunity to reset, and I think we should take this opportunity each year, to recap, reset, and reinvest our words, our attitudes and our actions into our future.

God has a purpose for every day and so should we.  It is important to approach life purposefully, but to also really make it all that it can be.  In order for us to do that, we don't simply need a purpose, but we need a God-given purpose!  The ideal way to have this purpose is to ask God what your purpose for this year is and grab that vision for 2021 and do not let go of it no matter what!

This vision/ mindset for this coming year is to be a clear mental picture of something God desires for your life. Your vision should clarify purpose, establish priorities, motivate commitment, maximize productivity and fuel passion.  This is a specific desire that God has for your future, a direction you can head in.  This vision may grow out of a need you see around you, something you just can't shake and settles in your heart.  Ask God, what that greatest desire is, and get a vision around it and let nothing stop you from going toward it and obtaining it.

2021 is going to be a great year for us.  I know that the division across our country looks dire, the confidence we have in our leaders is at its lowest point, and I have never seen so much animosity and unforgiveness of our differences than I do right now.  Is it going to get better? I believe we are at the beginning of this great test placed upon the Body of Christ, and that it may just get a little darker before the light of dawn. However,  as Christians, we are NEVER left on the short end of the stick.  You see, for the lover of God, He is always positioning us in a place of power and of authority.  The bible reminds us that we are overcomers, and more than conquerors!  I believe this is going to be a great year for the Lover and follower of Jesus because we will be a people with vision and a purpose.  It will be a great year for the one who takes up the mantle of what God has for them, unapologetically and with boldness.  It is our job to reach out to God and find our purpose for this new year.  We can make our plans, but as Proverbs 19:6(NLT) tells us "We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps."

I take this passage to mean that God expects us and finds great delight in our intentional and careful planning, but in all our planning we can rest in the fact that the Lord will determine the steps that must be taken.  We count on God to direct our steps through our time with him, planning out our paths.

Having a year filled with vision, purpose, and goals will make for a year filled with meaning and a sense of fulfillment, but only if you commit to live them every day of this year.  Most folks, this time of year, will have a vision and set good goals, but never follow through.  Their enthusiasm might last a couple weeks, then soon fades away.

This is why, what Paul wrote to the Christians in Ephesus is so critical to a purposeful life.  He wrote Ephesians 5:15-16: "15 So be careful how you live.  Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise.  16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days."

We MUST give attention to how we live, every single day.  We must determine to make the most of our time, not living randomly, but purposefully.

Begin each day with "Good Morning Lord", and take some time in prayer, and meditation.

Think about your 2021 Vision that He gave you, meditate on it, and reshare that vision with the Lord. Not because he needs to hear it, but because you do.  Third, review those goals and start speaking them out loud, as word containers of your faith, not accepting anything contrary to His vision for you.

2021 could be a messy year on this planet, but for the believer who has God's vision of who they are and the power they carry┬░ well to them, it will be a year of unprecedented prosperity and security, even in a world struggling with both.

GOD BLESS
