The Fountain Never Runs Dry

The Fountain Never Runs Dry

"For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, [and] hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water."

Jeremiah 2:13

So often we are guilty of factoring Christ as part of our life when, in reality, He IS our life.  In John 15:5, our Lord told us, "° "for without Me you can do nothing."  It is imperative that we as Christians Keep our eyes on the Lord.  "I will guide them with mine eye," (Psalm 32:8b)  We have a natural inclination to cling to the illusion of control.  We desire to be recognized and appreciated on our own merit.  When we insist on calling the shots, we are not allowing the Lord to be OUR Lord.  Often, we will find ourselves laboring in vain.

A cistern represents a lot of work. They would have to hew out basins in the rock and carve channels to direct the water.  Often the cisterns would leak, or the water that remained would become stagnant. This is the nature of religion; it neither sustains true life, nor holds water.

God's fountain of living water is still available to us today. He offers us His Spirit to enable us, equip us, lead us, and refresh us. It is His very presence with which He inhabits His people. In Him we can draw from the wellspring of life-purpose and fulfillment as He receives the glory. Do not let this day go by, without taking the time to be filled by His life-giving Spirit.
