Life contains a lot of things that catch our attention. These occur every day, all day throughout our lives. We don't always seek them. They just randomly happen. Some hold us captivated while most are rather fleeting in nature.
Those that captivate us do so either because they affirm our core beliefs or violate them, generating either positive or negative, visceral reactions as they register in our consciousness.
Core beliefs seem to be pretty essential to this process. So where do these come from and how did they become "core" to us? We aren't born with them, right? Aren't they pretty much just imposed on us by others over the course of our lives?
For Christians, God's Word defines our core values. 36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 26:36-40
Those things, those daily distractions that intrude into our consciousness are simply reminders from the Holy Spirit who is on the throne and deserving of our full attention. Every day.
